By now you know that next to family, dogs and chukars are a huge part of my life. This morning I started preparing for recovery days. I went to a spot I know holds Hungarian partridge and let the boys run as I walked the road. There was no gun. The boys didn’t let me down on what I can expect.
With Grady being five years old in 17 days and Jake past 10 years old, I only had to collar up Grady knowing that 300 yard range is common. We had three points on huns. Two by Grady with Jake honoring and one by Jake with Grady doing a 100 yard plus honor. It was great.
So great that when I got back to the truck I picked up the camera and hoped to film one more try. Grady had the find and Jake honored. Jake didn’t honor quite as well on this particular encounter but I’ve noticed as he aged and Grady came along he seems to know that if he doesn’t move in he might not get into the action. But he still won’t rush ahead.
Anyhow, this is what I’m going to have to live with while I’m in recovery. It will be with crutches but the dogs will treat me well. I won’t need much sympathy following these two great dogs.
Huns…..basically chukars without the cliffs and slipping and sliding. Bird of choice for ancient chukar hunters.

Thanks Greg and Larry. I hope we can get together for some hunts in the future. When they put old humpty dumpty back together maybe I’ll be able to keep up with you.
