Conner

Just a little brag on my grandson. The youth hunt started three days ago in Idaho. Conner has been out with three different youths and they have shot 4 good long beards. The kid loves the outdoors and lives for the next day for hunting or fishing. There is no quit or mountain too high to climb. He makes it happen.

He even took video’s of the three turkey hunts while calling. The turkey he called in today was in two inches of new snow and snowing. Most hunters would be home huddled next to the fire. The three hunts were in three completely different areas that he took time to scout out in the previous weeks while shed horn hunting.

It’s quite obvious that I am a proud grandpa. His mother left the world in June of 2021 but she left two great boys to show the wonderful person that she was. She was always so happy and helped so many people in her 46 years on this earth. Conner is carrying on her legacy doing the things he loves and helping others to enjoy it also. I miss that girl so much but am so happy she brought this young man into my life.

Next week he and I will be chasing the big birds and hopefully I’ll be able to film him arrowing a couple of Tom’s. He is as responsible as my dogs for my ability to still climb those steep hills. Like my dogs, he makes it so much fun to be on the mountain with them.

Like I said, just a little brag.

Hunting has been a favorite past time for me for 55 years but the last twenty five years I have been consumed by chukar hunting and more specifically chukar hunting with fantastic dogs. In this blog I hope to pass on any information I can about chukar hunting but more than anything I want to showcase what will probably be my last two chukar dogs, Jake and Grady. I am 70 years old, Jake is 8 and Grady is 3 and I'm hoping to stay on the chukar mountain until I am 80 when Grady will be fetching my final chukars.

  1. You really got Conner started right and passed on t him the interest as well as great hunting traditions and skills. And now he is passing those on to others……it cant get better than that. Congrats Grandpa.

  2. Thanks Greg. The house is becoming a hunters camp. The boys always show up for breakfast or dinner and I get to hear the great stories. The amount of excitement coming from these kids is infectious. And they really enjoy Barb’s cooking. The general season opens up this weekend and I’m looking forward to filming Conner shooting a couple of Tom’s with his bow.
