Very positive report.

I got a note from a good friend and fellow chukar hunter this morning. Greg Munther is a no b.s. type guy so I take his observations very serious. He floated the Snake from Hell’s canyon and reported very positive numbers of chukars. He said the majority of them were half grown. Also he said that probably the reason he saw so many chukars was due to they were coming down to the river for water. No matter the reason, the birds had to survive to be there to be seen.

I’m assuming 1/2 grown means about 5 or 6 weeks old. If that is the case they would have to be the first hatch birds. Maybe they were hatched right after the rains or possibly there wasn’t as much moisture as we had further south. Once again, I’d like to think that they made it through the rough weather okay. I’m hoping for some reports from people who have been on the other major waters of the southwest.

Our last obstacle before the season opener is fires. We’ve been lucky so far. Hopefully our fortune will remain good. I’m seeing these clouds start anviling out in the afternoons. So far they are not developing into thunderstorms but I’m sure we will have a few before summer is over. Let’s hope they produce lot’s of rain to go along with the lightening to help halt any fire that might get started.
